Sleeping with Twins

Many parents struggle with getting enough sleep with a newborn and some just cannot imagine what it's like to get twins to sleep! Having gone through it once with our firstborn, we always thought it was going to be just as challenging to get two babies to sleep for the night. We were pleasantly surprised to see that having multiples isn't as hard as we had thought it would be and that's something we owe all to God. How did we get so blessed? The positive thing is that it's amazing how the babies have managed to sleep so well each night...so far! And we're not just dealing with one baby, but TWO! Surprisingly enough, they pretty much go to sleep on their own.

After feeding them, we usually lay them back down in their co-sleeper. Sometimes they soothe themselves to sleep right away or sometimes they'll be alert and cooing, making us wonder if they will ever go to sleep, and before we know it, they're fast asleep! I think it helps to always have some white noise. Our white noise comes from a portable Vornado heater that perhaps sounds similar to what they heard while in the womb. Nine months in, nine months out. We also used to swaddle them up using the Miracle Blanket until they were four months and that definitely helps during the early days of their lives. They have adjusted extremely well going to sleep without being swaddled. We usually feed them again before we turn in for the night so they won't wake us up to be fed within an hour or two of us going to sleep. For the most part, they haven't waken us up for a feeding until maybe 6 or 7AM. We are going to revel in this moment because we won't know how long it will last once they start rolling over and sitting up! They are so peaceful when they sleep. And imagine the joy of waking up after a 6-7 hours stretch only to find the babies not crying, but awake, alert, cooing and quietly playing amongst themselves! :)

You are blessed! I didn't get to sleep through the night until my daughter was 18 months old. I would have thought that with two it would be twice as hard! 6-7 hours is fantastic!
